Armeria maritima Splendens
Armeria maritima Splendens
Sea pink
Looking for an absolutely robust and bee-friendly pink sea of flowers?
Thanks to its modest nature, Armeria maritima 'Splendens' is not only suitable for rock gardens, dry stone walls and flower bed borders, but also effectively covers larger areas in heathland or steppe areas with its sea of small flower balls. A real feast for the eyes for your garden! It not only delights us, but also attracts bees and other beneficial insects to the garden!
'Splendens' forms grass-like, dense cushions of up to 15 centimetres in height and a similar width. Long shoots grow from these in early summer, ending in their delicate flower heads, which in 'Splendens' shine deep pink.
The pink “beach thrift” Splendens is not only a reliable ornament for surfaces or planters for years to come, but also extremely easy to care for. It prefers a location in full sun, with soil that is rather dry, well-drained and only moderately nutritious. In spring it will be happy to be fertilized for the first time with compost and pruned. At this time it can also be divided if necessary. In the cold season it is extremely hardy and can survive low temperatures of up to -35 degrees without damage! Incidentally, snails give the grass-like, pretty, narrow-linear foliage a wide berth. This means that this flowering perennial is a reliable perennial garden ornament in locations where little else grows!
